Wow, it's been a while! I can't believe this is my first post of the new year and it's March already! Safe to say that uni work has definitely picked up the pace in second year- feel like I'm never done writing assignments! Anyway, with my first lot of semester 2 results all done and handed in, I thought I'd take the time to come back to my little blog and give an update of an amazing couple of days in Edinburgh! It's been a while since Matthew and I visited somewhere to go and explore together so I was super excited!
After a roughly 4 hour train journey, we were expecting to arrive to cold weather (even snow according to the weather forecast/my mum haha) but instead we stepped out of Edinburgh Waverley into beautiful sunshine! This is probably the first trip that we've been on that we haven't had any particular plans for so we just had a wander around deciding what to do, which worked out surprisingly really well!
We decided to get the train over to North Queensferry to visit the Deep Sea World aquarium and on our way down there, we stumbled across a beautiful little viewing point of the Forth Bridge... and it just happened to be the 125th anniversary of it's existence, so there were a few photographers waiting for some old war planes to be flown across it. Not usually our kind of thing but we thought we'd hang around and watch as it was a really pretty village and the views were so lovely!
After our little touch of history (haha) we wandered down to the aquarium and it was really cool! As always when you visit these kinds of places, you could leave and moan about it being a bit over-priced etc. but we just look at it as, the animals are really nice to see, and we enjoyed it so hey ho :) We seen a few baby puffer fishies which were the sweetest... as well as a huge turtle/alligator animal that I forget the name of... and a stingray that looked like he had lipstick on haha...
We then took the train back into the city centre and went up to the cafe in Jenners for some late lunch with a lovely view! One of the reasons why I love going to Edinburgh so much, is because it brings back memories from throughout my life from when I was a little girl with my family, to a few previous trips here with Matthew- during all of which we always ended up in Jenners at some point!
During our few hours of shopping after lunch, we came across this gorgeous little bakery called Bibi's and it was just so perfect. It was actually quite inspiring for me as I've always enjoyed baking as a hobby, especially recently when I've been all into making fondant cakes. I mean, I'm not sure if it'd be a path for me to pursue right now- but there's never anything wrong with finding exciting things that might feel right one day! :)
Later that evening, after a quick freshen up back at the hotel, we went out for dinner to a really nice Indian restaurant- the food was sooo good! Overnight, we stayed at a super cheap/functional hotel (only about £30 for the night!) called Tune hotel... it was just as you'd imagine... really basic, pretty tiny room but it was absolutely fine for the night and plus... means extra money to spend doing cool stuff! Cool stuff being buying cakes to eat at midnight in your tiny, inexpensive hotel room haha! Matthew kept making me laugh as he decided to play the whole "taking a selfie (but really videoing)" trick haha...
Now for day 2! I didn't really do anything special with my makeup but I used one of my favourite lipsticks- brave from mac! Also, mac's cream colour base in the colour hush makes the most perfect highlight to feel all glowing and healthy!
After stairs, stairs... and more stairs... we made it up to the top of Calton Hill to get some really nice views of the city! It was actually almost like being able to see all the best bits of Edinburgh, in one place- the sea on one side, the hills across on the other, and then a great view of the city on your way up :)
Matthew thought it would be great fun to have me jumping about all over the place to test out the multiple photos per second function on the gopro! As you can see... we ended up having such a laugh at the outcome photos haha... yup, all 30 of them!
My heart and I :)
"smile buby you look nice there"....."ok!.... omg... ahhh... i can't!!!" haha... windy times! very very windy actually!
*insert a long walk*
To finish off a really special couple of days, we visited The Elephant House! We've wanted to come here for a while now, and it was even better than I'd expected! Although, I won't say too much on it here as I think it deserves a blogpost in itself (coming soon)!
I loved our time up in Edinburgh together this week, it was just really nice to relax and do as we please, somewhere different! :) Spending time in different cities is always really cool as you end up discovering new places, doing new things, and best of all, building special memories to take away with you forever :)
Happy almost-spring time and I hope you've had a good first couple of months of the new year! There will be a few new posts coming this week- I still have lots of tell! :)
